Another Busy weekend!

Another Busy weekend for us despite the bad weather we have a full hotel with a Wedding group I just had a chat with the groom at breakfast he is as nervous as hell.
We gave him some champagne to calm him down CHAMPAGNE & A FULL BREKFAST .

What more could a man want? i think that we are in danger of spoiling our guests what next will they want en suites!!!!! Cheerfull staff Somewhere to park?

The guests of years gone by would never had made such demands of us and would definateley no partake of alcahol at such an early hour

Bring back the old days.

Fancy a Yorkie!

I got this a few days ago but it seems apt today to post it

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not whinging or complaining but:

I have been to York for the last two years for a nice November break. The Four star guesthouse was great, the location not too far from town. As you get near the front door you see the very nice raised acrylic Visit Britain plaque on the door, I think it was illuminated too. When you get in, there is a weekly council/tourism newsletter with information about what’s going on in York for that month and other information that tourist based outlets really do need to know. It was a very good read. Not expensive paper (A4) and not colour, but it contained relevant info on what was on in the City square, what deals were on and new places opening up. They even had vouchers for trade to visit restaurants and try their wares.

What would it take to get this up and running here ? One person with a computer. Why can’t the Tourist Board get something like this organized. If they did, we would know when the Tram opens/closes, when the rallies appear on the front and other organized events. C’mon, get a grip.

Beat the Credit Crunch

This is a cunning way to beat the credit crunch,i was chatting to a fellow hotel owner and this was his point.

His hotel has 20 bedrooms and he can sleep 36 people his occupancy level is about 54%,not bad for a seaside hotel with the season being reletivley short.

His turnover is £120K per anum his costs are 82K per anum that gives him and his partner 38k profit 19k each not a brilliant profit but ok

Now if there is a a downturn in buisness predicted for this year if its down by 10% he is in trouble.

HERE is the magic soloution to be risk free

Dont take another booking from the public, contact the dss and fill the place up with homeless and those who have been evicted from all other places, speak to the council there are plety of clients, and you may be able to get up to £100 per week, only £14.28 per day but look what it does.

This is the efect on your buisness, Turnover increases due to 100% room uptake

New turnover figure £187k per anum WOW.

1 Reduce staff to nil saving 24k
2 do no meals at all in the hotel saving 16k
3 Laundry costs are slashed to a minimum saving 3k
4 Advertising reduced to nil saving 2k
5 credit cards charges nil 1.5k
6 repairs and mainainance WHY BOTHER 9k
7 Postage telephones stationary not needed 3k
8 commission to agents etc none reqd 1.5k

Total Saving on this hotel 60k

Also the added benefit of no tourist board to join or deal with, no customs and excise, no ppl to pay, no enviromental health to deal with,
Problems with parking are now a thing of the past

YOUR NEIGHBORS ALL LOVE YOU.(NOT)

NEW HOTEL PROFIT £165k £82.5k each

NOW THAT'S A RECESSION BEATER

Wish You Were Here?

The following comments are taken from a very well known Hotel review web site.

2 seperate reviews from 2 very different hotels but not very far from each other
I wonder wich one you would like to stay in votes please 1 or 2.

1 Mr And Mrs *******

We booked this hotel on the strength of the reviews on ********** and it lived up to the billing. ******* and ***** are excellent hosts. They are keen to ensure that your stay with them is as enjoyable and comfortable as possible - nothing is too much trouble and they have obviously put a lot of thought (and hard work) into every aspect of the hotel. Many of the guests stay regularly at ******** and this says a lot about the place. The location is absolutely perfect. We had a wonderful sea view.
We hope that it isn't too long before we can get to go back again.

2 Mr and Mrs *********

I can only imagine that the positive reviews have been written by members of staff or the owners!
We checked into a room and it was filthy. Dust everywhere, grubby bathroom with tide-mark around the bath and "body hair" still present! The mattress was stained and the room smelled stale and unpleasant.
The car park is as described by other reviewers, a nightmare to enter and leave and a magnet for seagulls, attracted by scraps being thrown out of the kitchen windows by staff! I felt sorry for those guests with rooms at the back of the hotel - "Town Views" as claimed on the website? No, just the backs of other hotels and shops and very run down.
We were so disappointed that we made our complaints and left. I felt sorry for the receptionist, who obviously hadn't seen the poor standards in the guest roms.
I travel widely with my work, both in the UK and overseas, and this has to be probably the dirtiest, shabbiest place I've ever had the misfortune to experience.
The present owners need to take a long, hard look at their business - if they only put some TLC into the hotel, they'd be sitting on a gold mine.

GIZZA JOB

There has been a lot of talk just lateley about unemployment etc i have just been talking to a fellow hotellier and he has been advertising for a room assistant (chambermaid) for about 8 weeks and not 1 reply.

Now i know it is not the most exiting job in the world or the best paid, but i would rather do this than sell magazines on Mostyn St.

why can't he get anyone to work for him?

Bring Back The Tourists We ARE open

Informed by a reliable source, the Tram is opening Sat 21st March. Why dont they inform us of the opening and closing dates, are they just embarresed about it ?

Why Oh Why Is this not yet open??????

To Be Or Not To Be ( Graded )

A fellow hotellier sent the following to me toady

Why is it that Visit Wales find themselves curious as to why member numbers are dwindling? Of course there are numerous reasons. I won’t go into detail about them all because I don’t have that many hours in the day BUT ! I have just been viewing their marvelous TV adverts ( 5 in all) to promote Wales this year. Sorry ! South and West Wales this year. Have they forgotten yet again that there is a Wales above Llandrindod. That’s the one ! North Wales.
No wonder so many people have left and are still leaving. Me, I left two years ago and have had no drop in trade at all, but I did take the fees and I took the wife to an Italian where I had great value for money. Anyone in VW (not VolksWagen) care to reply ? Please. Or is the Assembly trying to take the tourism out of North Wales, give it to the South so that we have no industry at all in N.Wales.
FINISHED

Can You Tell Me The Way To Llandudno?

Is it me am i stupid? but coming up great ormes road by the post office is this sign.

now if a tourist is trying to find Llandudno maybe they would be a little confused to find out that they were on the way to Colwyn Bay Town Centre.
An Excellent waste of our rates? Or just plain stupidity by someone!!!!!!

No wonder trade is bad for so many hotelliers, or have we been intergrated into Colwyn Bay by the council and they just didn't tell us.

This is not the way to Colwyn Bay Town Centre it's The way to Llandudno town centre.

You Got to laugh

No Smoke Without Fire

I have Just been speaking to a very nice lady who runs a small hotel in town who tells me that she no longer takes smokers in her establishment.

I told her we had stopped lettin guests smoke in our hotel a few years ago also, then she explained to me, No! i don't let people who smoke stay at all full stop!.

A very brave move indeed But i cant help wondering where does it all stop.

No Smoking
No Drinking
No Moaning
No snoring
No Swearing
No sex
No scrambled Eggs

Good & Bad Places to stay

I have just been messing about on Trip Advisor reading other reviews of certain places in town.
Now i can't help wondering why almost all of the top rated hotels are run by people who are relatively new to the buisness and have little expierience, compared to some of the older and more well learned hotelliers in town some of wich have shocking reviews.

Is it because they are enthusiastic, and will do anything for thier guests or is it because after a while you just get so fed up with doing the job that you just don't care any more if anyone is out there please comment.

Diary of a small Hotel Owner
