Guest House Or Hotel ???

I Had the following sent to me today Interesting, This is why Visit Wales needs to listen to the small Hotel owners and bring in a new designator that suits all.


Why oh why do guests leave reviews such as a review which I had today “ clean tidy rooms, good hosts and would definitely recommend to friends and family” and then only tick four boxes out of six? Alright, I don’t have a swimming pool, we don’t have sofa’s in the room, They know we are a Guesthouse, I know we are a Guest house, so why are they comparing us against the Hilton. Sometimes I wish they just wouldn’t bother.

Thanks, that the weekend is here it has been a slow week although we have been steady it has been a tough few days, But then again this week has historicaly always been a bit slow and we do have the MAY DAY just around the corner plenty of fish in the sea for that one.

Chatting to a few others i do not know any of the good hotels who have any rooms left for this weekend, the extravaganza is not popular with everyone who lives in town but it is sureley one hell of a good money earner for a lot of buisneses,we should all get behind this event and chuck some pounds into the pot,LONG LIVE BANK HOLIDAYS!!!!

Anyone For a swim?

Looks like a lot of Places were busy this week, a great weekend with good weather and then a good crowd for the conference at venue has helped turn April into not a bad month.

Had an old friend call me and tell me a good funny from bank hoiday Monday.
Lady comes to reception to check out after being asked if all was ok she started to complain about the swimming pool, she said that the pool was to deep and that her husband who is a non swimmer was confined to the shallow end and it had spoiled their holiday!!!.GOOD ONE

Alice Not in Wonderllandudno

We had a group of 6 this weekend who came up to see the holiday home of Alice as they had read about it on the internet Penmorfa WHOOOOOOPSSS!!!!!!.

A couple who have been coming to our place for the last twenty years have checked out this morning, i asked if they had enjoyed their stay and they told me thay they would probably not be coming back again.

I asked them why not and they then told me the following.

Thusday afternoon they took their granson to west shore to the beach and play area, when they came back to the car wich was parked on the same bit of road that they had been parking on for years, there were 2 cones at each end of the car,and a parking ticket for £70.00 attatched to the window, They were so upset about it and i don't blame them.

They had by mistake parked on the bit of road reserved for the land train, and the driver had called the traffic warden who shot down and did the deed.

I did not know that an individual was allowed to cone off any part of the highway and i also i didn't know that you can call them out and they will ticket on request.

I have been down and had a look and it does say no waiting reserved for the land train but it is only a small sighn and they should not have parked there, but hey 2 more people that we have sent packing from town that will not come back.

Blackpool looks good value!!!

Just been watching the news about the guest house owners and hoteliers of Blackpool who say that they have got record numbers of bookings for the Easter period.

The trouble is that easter is very short, and the season is very long, and one must look at the bigger picture in all buisness

There was 1 hotel owner who had refurbished his Hotel to 5 star standard and was full for weeks.

Some of the hotel owners said he was mad and gave him a nickname Mad ***** but who has had the last laugh now he will be singing all the way to the bank and will get lot's of repeat customers.

By raising the bar he has thrown down the gauntlet to his competition who i noticed were selling rooms for £15.00 per night. it just shows that with a bit of hard work, some forsight,and the will to survive what can be done.

About once a month Mr and mrs never happy turn up they always come in a different disguise but they are always the same.

Nothing is good enough, the weather is always your fault,to hot too windy too cold to wet to dry, the traffic to get here was your fault, it's also your fault that they dont like the bed, the view, the tea, the coffee, the Naughty Children next to them The seagulls waking them up at 6am,and then Shitting all over the new astra, the sun being to bright in the dinning room, the parking situation on the prom, the hundreds of children in the shops/cafe's.

It makes you wonder why they come on holiday at all , or are they employed by Visit Wales just to **** us off and keep us on our toes.
Then when they leave you find 17pence on the bedside cabinet.

And next door thes scruffy Family that came in the beat up cortina, and mr and mrs never happy, moaned about all weekend leave you a crisp tenner.

Together we stand strong able to meet each day.

It is true , though that each left to himself will find it easy to sway.

Let us look at the tree which stands strong in the face of wind and rain.

Because each part of the tree does its part that tree can stand under strain.

The leaf on the tree depends upon the twig which connects it to the branch of the tree.

The twig is dependant upon the branch and branch is supported by the trunk; it is that way with you and with me.

The trunk needs the roots and the roots need the soil for nutrients to sustain the trees growth through good times and bad.

With all of these working with each other this is the secret to sustaining life and without this teamwork the outcome would be eternally sad.

Keep in mind that the leaf depends upon the twig and each part of the growing tree.

But each of these depends upon the leaf for without the air they could not be.

If we stand and work for each other it is good for each has something to give.

This is how life on Earth is sustained and part of our reason to live.

Easy Steet Or Hard Times Ahead??

As we head into another weekend lots of Hotels will be busy no doubt, but come sunday all is very quiet again and the few hotels pick up the small ammount of guests that they can.

No wonder then that some hotels have had to look at varying ways to fill the rooms some have gone upmarket Buotiqe some have gone down market either way it is very difficult to fill your beds in this climate .

And we must ask ourselves why is this happening, is it national or just confined to Llandudno. one thing that i do know is that there has been nothing forthcoming from Local government in the way of help.

PARKING is still the number 1 issue What is the point in spending Good money advertising with internet sites Newspapers etc when our guests arrive and can't park when they do find somewhere they are scared to move the thing and if they don't they will go home with a souvineer from the wardens Like 2 of our guests last week.

When are we going to get the residents parking scheme all over town.
When are the council going to do something about it.
when are the wardens going to show some mercy.
No wonder people are staying away in droves

When guests don't come the bills still need to be paid and we must all ask ourselves how much money can we spend to get them here or are there other ways to earn money.
